What is the light? (Answer)

Dear Robert,

I am glad to hear that you watch Ask the Pastor. I'm also glad that you read the Bible and study it enough to have questions like this occur to you. It is a good question you ask. I will share with you my understanding of the matter.

This physical world is a reflection of the spiritual world. Everything that God created, was first formed in His mind, and later manifested in the physical. This answers some common questions concerning the creation and some common misunderstandings about some apparent discrepancies in the book of Genesis. The other thing to understand is that the things written in the Bible can be understood at more than one level. There are literal meanings, and there are also deeper spiritual truths to be understood. I will start by addressing the physical truths revealed in Genesis.

As to the light, I don't know if you've ever studied any physics, but my answer comes from physics. Light is made up of something called photons. When matter and antimatter meet, they "annihilate" (mutually destroy), and their energy reappears as photons or other particle-antiparticle pairs. These photons have the characteristics of both waves and particles. Photons are produced by chemical reactions, such as the nuclear fission which occurs in stars, including our sun. Photons can also be generated by other chemical reactions, such as phosphorescence. There are many animals, such as fireflies and some fish who exhibit this type of reaction. Photons can also be emitted by elements when they absorb energy and then later release it, such as a glow-in-the dark dial on a watch. So you see, light does not really come from the sun precisely. It comes from the chemical reactions that take place in the sun. So in the beginning, God created photons.

"Scientists believe that when the Universe originated, about 13.7 billion years ago, equal amounts of matter and antimatter were created. In today's Universe though, there is no antimatter around (beside the one produced in high energy collisions!). All of it seems to have disappeared, leaving scientists with one of the biggest puzzles yet to be solved: where did the antimatter go? why did the antimatter not completely annihilate the matter, leaving only energy (photons) in the Universe?"Copyright CERN 2007, DSU - Communication Group

The world of science has only barely scratched the surface of understanding the incredible universe that God has manifested from His thoughts. I believe that every new discovery simply reinforces the fact that our Creator is awesome and incredible.

Now I'll address the deeper spiritual meaning of these verses. I will give you several scriptures to read. The first question we must ask is, WHAT
IS THE LIGHT? To answer this read in the KJV, John 1:1-10...
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.7 The same
came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of
that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by
him, and the world knew him not. And in John 8:12 we read... 12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

As I'm sure you see, Jesus is the Light. The word Light in Genesis, I believed speaks of the of God's life, knowledge of God, to know him and his purpose and desires, to understand the plan of God. Before anything was formed he made sure the creation had the ability to know who he is, he
created the light.

Finally, you may continue the spiritual interpretation concerning the sun and the moon. The sun is the SON. Our Savior Jesus the Christ. We are the moon. As the moon reflects the light of the sun, so we reflect the light of the Son.

So there you have it. Very often, people become discouraged because some things in the Bible seem at odds with scientific knowledge, but the truth is that it's only because we still lack full knowledge of how everything works. Everything reveals the glory of God. I hope that this has helped you to understand the scriptures that brought questions to your mind. Feel free to contact us in the future.

Blessings to you, keep studying and questioning until you arrive at the truth.

Sincerely,
Pastor Angel De Jesus
